Three Peaks Challenge
The 2nd Annual Cape Breton Highlands 3 Peaks Challenge will take place on July 16th, 2011. Fifteen (15) teams will have the opportunity to participate in a one of kind event. Pattern a bit after the UK 3 Peaks Challenge, this team event involves hiking all 3 peaks- Franey, Roberts Mountain and Acadien in one day, averaging between 2-3 hours (based on 2010) for each peak plus driving from Ingonish to Cheticamp. This event is hosted and organized by the Hike the Highlands Festival Society with assistance from Cape Breton Highlands National Park & Les Amis du Plein Air. The CB Highlands 3 Peaks event involves 4 people on a team including their captain. The captain is responsible for organizing the team; the safety and making sure all their teammates complete the challenge

21st Annual Feis an Eilein
A Féis is a community-based festival designed to promote the Gaelic language and culture of an area through educational and social activities for people of all ages. The community of Christmas Island, located on Cape Breton, is home to the first Féis to be held outside of Scotland. We are proud to be celebrating our 20th year as a festival dedicated to preserving and promoting Gaelic culture. Learn to play the bodhran drum at the annual “Festival of the Island”, which offers Celtic music concerts, Gaelic language workshops, step-dancing and storytelling. The highlight is the annual milling frolic, a traditional activity in which newly spun wool id pounded on a table to the rhythm of Gaelic songs. Join the fun!

The Cabot Trail Writers Festival
This fall, come to North River on the spectacular Cabot Trail in Cape Breton. Join 2010 Scotiabank Giller prize winner Johanna Skibsrud, 2010 Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize nominee Alexander MacLeod, and 2010 Poet Laureate of Halifax Shauntay Grant, along with guitarist Alec Frith and singer/songwriter Angelo Spinazzola, in a weekend of events designed to let readers and writers personally engage with some of their favourite artists. A Fascinating Friday-night opening gala on September 30th will showcase the work of iron sculptor Gordon Kennedy, pairing his large scale pieces with poems inspired by the sculpture, commissioned by the Festival, and written and read by Shauntay Grant.
