Never is the game of golf more appealing than when a course is set in a rugged, oceanfront landscape, on linksland running firm and fast. This is Cabot Links, Canada’s only authentic links. This is Cabot Links, where the holes spread out between the sea and the village of Inverness. This is Cabot Links, where every hole offers an ocean view and where five holes play directly adjacent to the beach. The routing at Cabot Links is classic in that its holes move naturally from the town of Inverness and then down to the shore. This sense of traveling from a central and busier location to open land is central to classic links: The Old Course is the primary example. Two par-fives in the first four holes demonstrate that the routing is organized around the landscape rather than any preconceived idea. The golfer tacks along the spaces that constitute the holes. Hole after hole, the game opens to the player, and the player to the game.
