Explore an Island where history lives and breathes.
Our entire Island echoes with the whispers of the generations that have come before us.
Travel back to the 18th century and spend a day or two at North America’s largest historical reconstruction - The Fortress of Louisbourg. A place where history doesn’t just whisper - but bellows with musket and cannon fire. Experience the sights, tastes and tales of a settlement that remains frozen in time, while bursting with activity.
It’s no secret people visit our Island to touch base with their Celtic roots, and some new to the culture, discover they have a Celtic heart. The infectious nature of Celtic culture really isn’t so complicated - it’s all about the celebration of life. Acadian fiddles also share the air with Celtic jigs here – and take centre stage in the picturesque Acadian settlements of Cheticamp and Isle-Madame.
Here before all of us, Mi’kmaq culture continues to thrive and inspire. The Eskasoni First Nation on the Bras d’ Or Lake, is the world’s largest Mi’kmaq community. You’ll discover music, art, humour, cuisine and stories that have been passed down over hundreds of years.
There’s no need to search for history here - we’ve put a bit of time-travel at each exit.
