We wholeheartedly want you to chase waterfalls!
With 100’s of waterfalls, Cape Breton Island has waterfalls for everyone! The only problem is having enough time to explore them all. To help out with this, we’ve made an exciting 3 Day Itinerary focusing on some of the Island’s favourite waterfalls.
Day 1
Sydney to Baddeck – 78 km
Let’s get right to it! There’s no way you can be a waterfall chaser and not see one of our most popular waterfalls, Uisge Bán Falls!
- Leave Sydney and drive to Baddeck
- Be sure to have all your hiking essentials ready to go
- Grab lunch to have a picnic at the falls from The Herring Choker Deli, Café and Bakery or The Highwheeler Café and Bakery
- Give yourself 2 hours to complete the hike to Uisge Ban Falls
- Relax with a hearty supper at the Telegraph House, or The Freight Shed
- Stay at one of the great accommodations in the Baddeck region
Day 2
Baddeck to Cape North – 137 km
Now that you’ve discovered Uisge Ban it’s time to head north to enjoy some evening taller waterfalls that never fail to impress.
- Leave the St. Ann’s and North Shore region and head north on the Cabot Trail
- Grab breakfast and coffee at the Dancing Moose
- Stop at the Cape Breton Highlands National Park – Ingonish Visitor Information Centre to buy a permit
- Drive to Beulach Ban Falls
- Be amazed at how tall and easy to find this waterfall is
- Head across the plateau of the highlands to MacIntosh Brook Trail where you can easily stroll through an old-growth Acadian forest to a peaceful waterfall
- Enjoy supper at the Rusty Anchor and hunker down for the night in Pleasant Bay
Day 3
Pleasant Bay to Middle River – 109 km
Get ready to drive one of the most scenic portions of the Cabot Trail while you head south through Chéticamp and Margaree to Middle River on your way to explore Gairloch Mountain Falls.
- Depart Pleasant Bay and drive south along the Cabot Trail
- Take a quick walk along The Bog Trail in The Cape Breton Highlands National Park
- Have breakfast at the Restaurant Evangeline in Chéticamp
- Continue southward to Margaree and through to Middle River
- Hike into Gairloch Mountain Falls. Be sure to hike carefully. Use these tips to help ensure a safe hike.
- Grab a bite to eat at Farm to Fork Food Truck at Big Spruce Brewing and head back home
