Membertou
Welcome to Membertou, a vibrant Indigenous community nestled in the heart of Sydney, Cape Breton Island. With its rich history, cultural attractions, and warm hospitality, Membertou offers visitors a unique and unforgettable experience.

Since Time Immemorial
Let's start with a bit of history. Membertou is one of the oldest and largest Mi'kmaq communities in Nova Scotia, with roots that date back over 13,000 years. Named after the legendary Mi'kmaq Chief Membertou, this community has a deep connection to the land and its people. Explore the Membertou Heritage Park to learn about the fascinating history and traditions of the Mi'kmaq people through interactive exhibits, cultural demonstrations, and guided tours.

Authentic Culinary Experiences
But Membertou isn't just about history, it's also a hub of activity and entertainment. Check out the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre, where you can catch live music, comedy shows, and other events year-round. And for a taste of traditional Mi'kmaq cuisine, head to the Kiju's Restaurant, where you can sample delicious dishes made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. After a visit to Kiju's Restaurant head over to the Lanes at Membertou where you bowl the night away!

Just a walk away
Looking for a place to stay? Look no further than the Hampton Inn Sydney, located just seconds away from the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre via a pedway. With its comfortable rooms, modern amenities, and convenient location, it's the perfect home base for your Cape Breton adventure.
