W for Waterfall Season!
A for Adventure Takes on Cape Breton Island’s Waterfall Season
When the adventurous duo Chris and Jan from A for Adventure received the call to explore Cape Breton Island’s magical Waterfall Season, they packed their gear, laced up their boots and set their sights on some of Nova Scotia’s most breathtaking scenery. With the crisp spring air energizing their spirits, they set off on an unforgettable journey to uncover the hidden gems of Cape Breton Island.

The Falls That Took Their Breath Away
First on the itinerary was Egypt Falls, a cascading wonder tucked away in the lush forest. Also known locally as “Pipers Glen Falls,” this spot proved to be as enchanting as its name suggests. After a steep descent, they were rewarded with the sight of the falls roaring into a pristine pool below. These falls are one of the most photogenic waterfalls on Canada’s East Coast. It was pure magic.
Next, the duo found themselves surrounded by serenity at Gairloch Mountain Falls, a tucked-away treasure that feels like stepping into another world. The peaceful sound of water trickling over moss-covered rocks made it the perfect spot for a reflective pause — or, in Chris’s case, an impromptu yoga session.

The Falls That Took Their Breath Away … Continued!
The adventure continued and we invited tourists and residents to join us! Chris and Jan led a group hike to the incredible Uisge Ban Falls in Baddeck. Around 30 people joined us for this hike and we shared stories about our favourite hikes and waterfalls (there are soooo many) on Cape Breton Island
The adventure didn’t stop, we just had to visit MacIntosh Brook Falls, this hidden gem of a waterfall is nestled in the heart of Cape Breton Highlands National Park. A gentle hike through towering trees led them to this serene spot, where they basked in the refreshing mist of the cascading water. This was also where Jan decided to try his hand at “waterfall whispering” (we’re still not sure what that means, but he seemed to enjoy it).
And finally, they visited the grand Beulach Ban Falls, one of Cape Breton Island’s most iconic waterfalls. Standing before its towering beauty, Chris and Jan couldn’t help but marvel at the raw power and beauty of nature. It’s safe to say this one earned a top spot in their waterfall rankings.

Beyond the Falls: Dingwall Beach and Tenerife Mountain
When they weren’t chasing waterfalls, Chris and Jan found themselves exploring the expansive shores of Dingwall Beach where they soaked up the ocean breeze and searched for seaglass treasures. From there, it was on to the summit of Tenerife Mountain for panoramic views that left them absolutely speechless (except for Jan’s enthusiastic commentary about the clouds).

Culinary Adventures
Of course, all that adventuring worked up an appetite and Cape Breton’s culinary scene didn’t disappoint. The boys rolled up their sleeves and learned to make wood-fired pizza at South Harbour Pines Pizzeria where the secret ingredient is apparently “a lot of love and a sprinkle of Cape Breton charm.”
We visited Baddeck for a chance to watch the finish of the challenging Cabot Trail Relay and visited The Highwheeler Café, where Chris and Jan became self-proclaimed espresso experts, mastering the art of the perfect brew while chatting with locals who shared stories of previous relays.
A surprise culinary highlight came at Last Chance Sandwich on the Cabot Trail. The staff, who were hilariously “pickled in,” posed for some pickle-themed photos with their mascot, Pierre Pickles. The duo couldn’t resist trying the legendary Pickle King Sandwich — a delicious grilled cheese loaded with spicy crunchy onions, cheese, peanut butter and, of course, pickles! It was a quirky and unforgettable experience that had them coming back for seconds.
The grand finale? Smash burgers at Rose’s Smash Burgers at Big Spruce Brewing. Guided by Raxx, Chris and Jan perfected their burger-smashing technique and enjoyed their creations with a side of craft beer from Big Spruce. (Pro tip: everything tastes better after a day of adventuring!)
