Arts North, located near the northern tip of Cape Bretons Cabot Trail, is an artisans consignment gallery retailing only high quality arts and crafts produced exclusively on Cape Breton Island.
Designed, constructed and managed by professional artisans, Arts North has, since its founding in 1978, adhered to its Cape Breton only philosophy, maintaining only two overriding criteria for inclusion in its retail display. Work exhibited and retailed through Arts North must:
Be produced on Cape Breton Island by artists and artisans residing on the Island;
Be of a quality high enough to pass examination by the artisans who make up the Arts North selection committee
Displayed for retail sale in the gallery are works in:
Stoneware pottery
Silver
Fibre, including knitting, quilting, hooking, weaving, canvas floorcloths,
Wood
Basketry
Prints
Glass
Photography
And other media as may be added to the collection from time to time
With Arts Norths 20+ artisans based throughout Cape Breton, its not surprising that an environmental theme runs through the collection of work retailed in the gallery. Pottery with whale, shorebird, moose and marine figures, hooked mats depicting mountain-to-ocean scenes from the northern tip of the island, jewellery combining silver and driftwood or beach glass, floor cloths and quilts with floral or wildlife designs, framed wildflower prints all grace the walls. shelves and floors of the gallerys post and beam interior space.
As a service to visitors, items purchased at Arts North may be shipped home, as worldwide shipping is offered. A selection of items may be seen at www.arts-north.com
Visa, Mastercard and Debit are accepted.
