GEARL is an Indigenous hip hop artist based out of Eskasoni. Gearl’s mission is to share his personal experiences of the indigenous lifestyle in the Maritimes as well as spread appreciation and knowledge of the Mi’kmaq language and culture. He has toured extensively across Canada and the United States. In his time as a member of award-winning group City Natives or on his own, Gearl is known for being able to connect with the audience in an earnest and meaningful way.

 

With three Juno Awards for Alternative Album of the Year (2015, 2017, 2021), three MUCHMusic Video Award nominations for Rock/Alternative Video of the Year, eight Top 10 Canadian Rock singles, and appearances at a who’s who of festivals including Montreal’s Osheaga, Germany’s Reeperbahn, and Austin City Limits Festival, JULY TALK remains a glowing beacon of hope on the Canadian musical landscape. Their July 3 appearance at Makin’ Waves presented by Sydney Credit Union with Eskasoni rapper GEARL will be their only stop in Nova Scotia this Summer.


Makin’ Waves, July 3-31, is presented by Sydney Credit Union and produced by the Cape Breton Regional Municipality. These concerts are made possible by the Government of Nova Scotia, Government of Canada, and festival partners Protocase and Cape Breton Beverages.
