Doug Johnson has been strumming and picking and singing, as a solo artist and with various ensembles and bands, since the 1970s. He played and recorded with Cape Breton singer-songwriter Rita MacNeil’s first group and toured with American folk legend Ed McCurdy throughout the 1980s while getting a B.Mus. degree from Dalhousie University. Covering a range of genres and styles—from Folk, Country, and Classical to R&B, Rock, and Pop—the versatile guitarist and writer has also worked in theatre as a musician, arranger, and musical director. Doug has released his own music on a number of recordings, and was half of the storied duo DougBill Platypus, with Bill Appleby. He currently plays bass and sings with Jazz/R&B trio Those Guys and still does pit work in theatre and plays pop hits from the past as a solo artist in bars and restaurants.
