Nicolas Denys Days, July 29th to August 4th 2024, is an event that strives to provide visitors to Cape Breton Island, and locals, with authentic island experiences, providing opportunities for participation and community benefits. As a visitor to the area, this approach gives you the opportunity to get to know us and join in the fun all week long! The signature activity is “Swim The Canal” which attracts visitors from around the world. We have had over 250 swimmers in the past three years with over 50% from off island. There are many opportunities for the Cultural Explorer to interact with locals during the 5K run, the poker walk, the parade, the community supper, the two museums and of course Swim The Canal.
